First question, who are Chus & Ceballos?
Chus & Ceballos are two Spanish guys that have the house music like a way of life. Have been Djing and producing for many years and enjoy their job like the first day. They work really hard everyday to make the people dance with their music and dj sets all around the world.
You are Spanish top DJs and producers at the moment, but do you feel more DJS or producers ?
We really feel both things, for us djing and producing is like the ying and the yang. We can conceive to spin without have the needing of make your own music and we cant conceive to make music and don't have the chance of play it in a good club. The best is when you spin your own tracks with a good reaction of the crowd. That is the nirvana of this job.
Stereo is your own label, how was born the idea to open a recording label and which is the Stereo's musical line ?
We were really tired of the philosophy of the major spanish record labels five years ago. We wanted to change the direction of the spanish music to a way more underground, to make an independent music label with a big identity of our influences and begging a music project where involve a lot of unknown but amazing artists from our territory. Since the first release, the label had and amazing feedback from the industry and the Dj's, we received hundreds of demos from all around the world from people that wanted to release their music in our label. That was the beginning of this big music movement.
The music line .... just the music that we like, quality music, music with soul, with groove, with a good dancefloor response, music that tell you something, that make you dance. The style... doesn’t matter.
Which artists has influenced you as producers?
There are a lot of good producers of different styles that have influenced to us, Chus: Danny Tenaglia, Dj Vibe, Angel Moraes, David Morales, Murk, MAW, Eric Kupper or François K… Pablo: Richie Hawtin, Deep Dish or Danny Tenaglia to name a few.
As you can see most of theme are producers from or with a big American influence, that we have mixdown with other european and latin influences.
This new compilation you made for Star 69 "Back 2 back" includes two hot sets from both of you, does the tracklist here represents the music you play in your gigs or is it mostly the music you like ?
We have reflected in this double cd what the sound of Chus & Ceballos is, that good balance between hard and soul, groove and musically, rhythm and spirit, This compilation includes upcoming interesting tracks mixed with some Stereo classics to dance without stop everywhere you play it, is a good work for listening but is better if you to turn off the ligths and dance.
What are the hottest records in your bag at the moment?
Chus: Ame – Rej (Sonar Kollectiv records, germany)
Pablo: Dj Simi & Masterkeys - 4 da Underground (Yoshitoshi)
The Spanish house scene is really hot lately, besides you, who are the most interesting Spanish producers/djs , and who are the most interesting new rising names?
There are a lot of interesting and recognized djs-producers in our country like David Penn, Dimas a.k.a D-Formation, Oscar de Rivera, Roman Lieske to name a few, and talking about new names we trust on names like Prompt, Rosh, Dario Nuñez, Simon & Shaker are some of the upcoming rising talents.
Which music do you listen when you're home or in your car ?
We Love to listen ‘NO DANCE MUSIC’ ! LOL, Downtempo, lounge & Chill music for relax.... ‘Onuba’ is one of our favourites album at the moment, its electronic flamenco fusion, amazing!
Other artists like Sade, Sting, Craig David, etc
The famous last question ..... vinyl or cd ? ... and why ?
We play both of them already, the CD is easier to carry on and listening for the traveling, and the CD players have a lot of new features that bring the way to play records to another label... you can remix a track live, a million of possibilities but, the vinyl is still the vinyl, there is something romantic when you play it and sounds still amazing at the low end frequencies. We are really
open minded to the new music formats, play whatever you feel comfortable with, the most important thing is the music you play.
